☀️ Hello Norfolk. ☀️

This week’s Insider is packed — the kind of packed where you start scrolling and forget what you originally opened your email for.

We’ve got a fresh Norfolk real estate market update video, a look at the most affordable starter home currently on the market, and a beautiful local documentary you absolutely need to know about (Young Farmer, premiering this week). We’re also celebrating a new Catch the Ace winner, sharing two wonderful community stories — one about the old-school ice harvest that kept Norfolk cold before fridges existed, and another about the journey of a beloved local restaurateur — plus a full lineup of happenings to plan your week.

If you’re looking for something to smile about, learn from, or maybe even act on… you’re in the right place.

Let’s get into it.

OUR COMMUNITY

Daryl Granger is at it again — bringing small-town Norfolk to the big screen.
After earning international acclaim with Netting the Waters, Granger has struck gold once more with Young Farmer, a beautiful new documentary following 7-year-old Roman Boyd, a seventh-generation farmer near Langton, and his deep love for the land, the work, and the future of farming. And just like last time… the awards are already rolling in.

I had the chance to watch an advance screener, and I promise you — this one is special. It’s great for families, so bring the kids along!

Young Farmer premieres January 12, with regular showings beginning January 15 at the Strand Theatre. It will also be shown at select theatres in Hamilton and Waterloo!

Go see it. Support local film. Be part of something uniquely Norfolk.

Trailer below.

In a world full of heavy headlines, this is a bright spot. A post in Waterford Today Facebook group shows someone stocked a free food bin outside the United Church on Main Street for anyone who needs it. A simple act of kindness, and a powerful reminder that community and compassion are still very much alive.

A big congrats to Don Maxwell on his $500 Catch the Ace win in Port Dover! The big prize of $26,250 is still out there! Next draw is Friday at 7:15pm (doors open 5:30).

REAL ESTATE

NOTABLE LISTINGS:

This 550sqft starter home is currently the lowest price home on the market in Norfolk. It could be a country home for someone looking to break into the market.
Listed by Kyle Dinsmore - Remax Twin City Realty Inc.

These condos at Mill Pond are always a hot commodity. Mill Pond is a great place if you’re looking to downsize from a single family home - particularly if you have mobility issues. Fortunately, they come up for sale fairly often - but they also typically move quickly.
Listed by Doug Hunt - Remax Erie Shores Realty Inc.

This week has several Open Houses underway, the first of 2026. CHECK THEM OUT HERE and plan your weekend search.
