COMMUNITY CORNER

Local Music Release

Simcoe’s own Ian Madge—organist and choir director at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church—has released a new CD, Reflections, from the Heart. The album features 18 instrumental piano tracks with orchestration, plus two tracks with guitarist Steve Bergevin, all recorded in Ian’s home studio right here in Simcoe.

The CD artwork comes from a painting by local artist Phil Maddock, making this a truly local collaboration from start to finish.

If you’re interested in a copy, contact Ian at (519) 426-8822. A percentage of sales will be donated to the church.

New Business

There is a new business in Norfolk County to check out. It’s called The Melbourne Marketplace, and it located at 37 Robinson Street in Simcoe. Their tagline is Revamp, Reuse, Repurpose. Who can’t get on board with that!? They have a selection of collectables, vintage decor, a wide variety of items for the everyday, and they rent out booths to vendors! It’s a true community business. Go check them out!

Brian Humphrey helps us with Finding Balance on Groundhog Day

David Gilbert fills us in on the story of how Norfolk County secretly hosted one of the most famous and brutal bare-knuckle boxing matches of the 1800s, drawing thousands of gamblers and press to Long Point for a fight that was illegal in the United States. Check it out HERE
